3 DIT graduates nominated as ‘Rising Stars’

The Irish Film Board (IFB) and the Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) have announced their Rising Star Award nominees for 2011 and three out of the four of those shortlisted are DIT young graduates! The shortlist includes actress Antonia Campbell Hughes, actor Domhnall Gleeson and writer/directors Juanita Wilson and Ian Power. Domhnall Gleeson studied Media Arts, Juanita Wilson studied Journalism while Ian Power did an MA in Film in DIT! The IFTA/IFB Rising Star Award is given in recognition of the four nominees’ new and breakthrough influences in the Irish and international film and television industries. The shortlisted individuals have been selected by a specially selected jury and the award is sponsored by the IFB.

In addition, a further nine graduates are among the IFTA Nominees in each of the following categories:

Director (Film) PJ Dillon (Film and Broadcasting, DIT; Ian Power (MA Film, DIT), Juanita Wilson (Postgraduate Journalism, DIT)

Actor in a lead role (TV) Domhnall Gleeson (Media Arts, DIT)
Director Photography P J Dillon (Film and Broadcasting, DIT); Donal Gilligan (Film and Broadcasting, DIT)
Editing Nathan Nugent (Film and Broadcasting, DIT)
Entertainment Programme Larry Bass (Film and Broadcasting, DIT)
Factual Programme Philip Kampf (Film and Broadcasting, DIT)
Special Irish Language Award Martha O’neill (Film and Broadcasting, DIT)
Short Film Juliette Bonass (Film and Broadcasting, DIT)
