DIT Soccer Club progress to National Futsal Finals
The DIT Men’s Futsal Team progressed to the College’s & Universities Futsal Cup National Final’s by winning the Dublin North Region in Blanchardstown IT on March 23rd.
DIT won all three games beating Blanchardstown IT, DCU and St Patricks College Drumcondra. DIT’s Davy O’Sullivan was the day’s top scorer with 10 goals.
27 colleges across 6 regions contested for a place in the National Finals. The regions included North, South, South East, West, Dublin North and Dublin South. Only the winning team from each region can progress to the National Finals which will be held in the University of Limerick on Monday April 19th 2010. The winner’s of the National Finals will have the opportunity to play at the European College Championships which will be held in Zagreb, Croatia in the summer of 2010.
Futsal is the official name for indoor soccer and participation numbers are on the increase across the country. This is the second year the men’s college’s event has been held with Colaiste Stiofain Naofa, Cork winning last year’s men’s event. It is the first year the ladies event has been held and UCC were crowned champions back in November. The Irish Men’s International Team are playing Norway in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght over two games on March 30th and 31st with kick off at 8pm on both nights.
